Before
the Start Date
- Send
a welcome letter
- Add
the new employees name to your mailing
list
- Invite
the new employee to meetings, if appropriate
- Invite
the new employee to social functions
- Stay
in touch by phone call at least
once per week
- Schedule
any testing, physical exams, etc.
- Call
about projects, plans, etc.
- Mail
applications, insurance forms, etc.
- Have
the contract signed, if appropriate
- Schedule
training seminars
- Be
certain the new employees desk is
clean and well supplied
After
the Start Date
- Provide
a formal orientation
- Discuss
expectations for the first week, the first
month, and the first six weeks on the
job
- When
possible, assign a mentor
or buddy for the first month
- Give
the new employee a schedule of activities
for the first month
- Provide
an organizational chart
- Schedule
projects, plans, etc.
- Meet
to review the first weeks activities
and reactions
